Bubba Wallace made a statement on his mustache after earning a P4 finish at the NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway. The 31-year-old went to X/Twitter to announce that he’s keeping the mustache for at least another week.

“Stache stays another week,” Wallace wrote. “And yes Mexico don’t count.” Bubba Wallace began growing out the mustache a couple of weeks ago, and it has seemed to help him on the track. Before finishing fourth on Sunday, Wallace earned a P6 finish at Nashville last weekend.

“Yeah, when Charles (Denike, crew chief) comes over the radio and says be on it the whole time, that’s all you want to hear,” Bubba Wallace said after the Michigan race, per Toby Christie of Sports Illustrated. “I was doing a little bit of technique stuff on that run to pick up some fuel. When it was time to go, it was time to go. When you weren’t really gaining anything, you have to be smart about what the situation is, and I feel like we’re getting there. All-in-all, a good day.”

The mustache has helped Bubba Wallace in a big way

The back-to-back top-10 finishes were much needed for Wallace. Before those races, the Alabama native suffered three consecutive DNFs. After the Michigan race, Wallace is in 12th place in the playoff standings and 10th in Cup points.

After the Nashville race, Wallace got emotional when talking about his family. “Having a kid changed your life,” Wallace said. “It’s super cool. …That’s the biggest support system. He’s eight months. He doesn’t know what’s going on, but he’s excited to see me every time.”

Bubba Wallace has had a strong 2025 season. In 15 races, he has earned six top-10 finishes with three in the top five. But he’s still looking to win his first race since placing first at Kansas in 2022.

“The statistics don’t do it justice. The eye test, to me, says that Bubba is having a better year,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. proclaimed on Dale Jr. Download in April. “Bubba always, in my mind, before this year, Bubba had that handful of tracks where, ‘Okay, he could have a good run here. He does have some history of running good at Kansas, Talladega, Daytona,’ you know, he has certain places where it’s like, ‘Alright, not surprised to see him win or run in the top five.’ Now he’s doing it almost every week. Now he’s competitive, and matching, if not beating, his teammate [Tyler] Reddick at times.”
