Understandably lost in the spectacle of his first NASCAR Cup Series win and the narrative that he's destined to be one of NASCAR's next big stars is the immediate 2026 outlook for Carson Hocevar's season.
Make no mistake, both storylines deserve to take the lead this week, but Hocevar and the No. 77 Spire Motorsports group are putting together a solid 2026 campaign as a whole.
Hocevar was solid in his first two Cup campaigns, finishing 21st and 23rd in the standings, respectively, in 2024 and 2025. But he's taken things up a notch in 2026, ranking eighth through the first 10 races of the year.
His consistency — three top fives, four top 10s, eight top 20s and an average finish of 14.0 — has made him not just a driver sniffing the Chase bubble, but one who has a real chance to finish top 10 in the regular season.
Hocevar is 70 points above the Chase cut line following his win on Sunday at Talladega. If he continues to stay out of trouble and bring similar speed to the racetrack on a weekly basis, there's potential for him to get back to victory lane and finish the regular season ahead of drivers such as Bubba Wallace, Joey Logano and Chase Briscoe, among others.
While it wouldn't be damning if Hocevar faded outside of the top 10 or top 12 by the end of the regular season, Sunday's win wasn't a fluke. Hocevar is quick every weekend, and his Spire Motorsports teammate, Daniel Suarez, is also in the provisional Chase field in 14th after Sunday.
Spire is turning into a solid Cup Series organization as Hocevar turns into a star.
Talladega has a tendency to produce what could be called "fluke" winners. Hocevar is not one of them, and in 2026, there's a chance he's top-10 in the Cup Series standings when the season ends at Homestead in November.
