LONG POND, Pennsylvania -- The phrase "teamwork makes the dream work" doesn't always apply in NASCAR racing.
That's the case for the RFK Racing duo of Chris Buescher and Ryan Preece, who find themselves battling for the final provisional Cup Series playoff spot with 10 races remaining in the regular season. Buescher currently has a 19-point advantage over Preece.
While the cut line will likely change, as of now, the two teammates are in a tight battle for the 16th and final postseason berth. But don't expect Preece and Buescher to become enemies over the next two months.
"I think ultimately, from an RFK perspective, we're going to have to win," Preece said. "If we go into Daytona and myself or Chris has an opportunity to point our way in, then that's great. But here this weekend, Atlanta next weekend, Chicago, Sonoma - we're going there to win. If we can win, we don't have to worry about these points conversations."
Buescher echoed his teammate's sentiment, making it clear that he and the No. 17 team are more interested in chasing wins than points.
"We're coming out here to win races," Buescher said. "That points racing mentality, we're not going to act like we're just racing one car. For us, it's not going to change our approach. We've been able to race each other really respectfully understanding that we are each other's only friend out there at a lot of points. I think we'll continue to have good, hard racing like we have throughout the year."
