AVONDALE – NASCAR is taking over Phoenix Raceway for the Shriners Children’s 500. The field is stacked with the best drivers in the world, led by Christopher Bell, who is on a historic pace. The nine-year pro is the current favorite to win Sunday’s race, and it’s a no-brainer why. In NASCAR’s first three races of 2025, Bell has won two, winning them back-to-back. Bell has an opportunity in Phoenix to join a rare crop of drivers to win three races in a row, a feat only done 28 times in NASCAR’s modern era.
Bell won the 2024 Shriners Children’s 500, and if he repeats that feat this year, will join elite companies like Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon, and more. Of the 28 instances, the driver who accomplished the streak won the series championship 11 times. If Bell wins in Phoenix, he’ll be the 18th driver to achieve that mark, the previous one being his competition on Sunday, Kyle Larson.
In 2021, Larson won three races in a row twice, on his way to winning the NASCAR Cup Series Championship. Larson opened that year winning the first three races of the season. The 32-year-old is currently the third favorite to win at Phoenix Raceway and poses as Bell’s biggest competition.
Sunday will be an old-fashioned Western shootout in the Desert. Bell seems untouchable, already securing his spot in the NASCAR playoffs in November. Will Bell’s recent hot streak make him grow too comfortable, allowing Larson or the field to deny the 30-year-old from destiny? Over 40,000 fans live at Phoenix Raceway will find out that the 2025 Shriners Children’s 500 will be one to remember.
