It's been nearly a month since NASCAR Cup Series driver Christopher Bell fractured his wrist in a June 7 crash at Michigan International Speedway, and while the Joe Gibbs Racing driver is making progress and wore only a splint at Chicagoland Speedway this weekend, his timeline for his wrist to be healed isn't where he wants it to be.
"I was looking at Chicago," Bell told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Monday regarding his timeline for his wrist to heal. "I was like, hopefully at Chicago I'll be back to normal. As we got closer to Chicago, it appeared that that wasn't going to be the case.
"Then I was like, okay, maybe Wilkesboro [on July 19]. I'm still holding hope for Wilkesboro, that I'll be able to race without a splint at Wilkesboro. But they're telling me no, it'll probably be after the [Aug. 2] off-weekend, which would be Iowa."
Should the August timeline be correct, Bell's first race without a splint on his left hand would be Iowa on Aug. 9. Sunday was Bell's first race without a cast since Pocono. He wore a cast at Pocono, San Diego and Sonoma before changing to a splint last weekend.
Even while racing injured, Bell nearly won Sunday's race, with his late charge coming up just shy as his JGR teammate, Chase Briscoe, scored his first win of 2026.
