Dale Earnhardt Jr. Has Fired Back At Controversial NASCAR Narrative

Dale Earnhardt Jr. saw his name evoked after Austin Hill's latest victory.

On Saturday, Hill won the Bennett Transportation and Logistics 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. NASCAR on NBC noted that the 30-year-old tied Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart with his eighth Xfinity Series triumph on a drafting track. 

Per NASCAR Insights, Hill passed Dale Jr. with the most laps led on drafting tracks in Xfinity Series history. The Hall of Famer had taken the record from his dad, Dale Earnhardt Sr.

Earnhardt Jr. acknowledged that record on his Dale Jr. Download podcast, even adding that Hill set the feat in fewer races than him and his father.

"Austin Hill's done it in a shorter amount of races. I ran 30-something races, and he's done it in 20-something, so I ain't taking nothing away from him," Earnhardt said (h/t On3). "He has the right mentality that makes a great racer in that style of racing. He just does. He doesn't think about it. He just keeps his foot on the damn gas."

However, Earnhardt Jr. also gave considerable credit to Hill's No. 21 car.

"With that said, he has the fastest car and he's great at taking advantage of that and winning races with it," Earnhardt continued. "Richard Childress Racing should be commended for how good their cars are in the Xfinity Series at Daytona and Talladega."
