Erik Jones has profane message for NASCAR caution decision

Erik Jones went off on NASCAR for a questionable decision to throw a caution flag that led to him getting penalized.

Jones decided to pit on lap 138 of the Goodyear 400 on Sunday at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, S.C. when a late caution flag came out. The caution was for debris on the track at Turn 4, which Jones and his team were either unaware of or did not think was worthy of a caution.

Jones was livid over the timing of the decision, as he did not get to pit road in time and was assessed a penalty.

Over radio, Jones went off on NASCAR over the timing of the flag.

“What the f—, NASCAR, are we f—ing doing?” Jones said. “A car wrecked and we don’t throw it … limping around and now there’s nothing out here.”

Jones wound up finishing 11th in Stage 2.

One can understand Jones’ frustration. Presumably, he would have waited to pit had he known the yellow flag was about to come out.

Jones has three top-20 finishes to his name so far this season, including a 12th-place finish at Daytona. The 28-year-old seems to have a long memory, so NASCAR might be subjected to more complaints from him after the race.
