A former NASCAR team owner and one-time crew chief was recently injured in a house fire.

Bob Rahilly suffered the injuries earlier this month at his home in North Carolina. Authorities say the fire required multiple departments to extinguish it, and that Rahilly suffered third-degree burns.

Rahilly owned Rahmoc Enterprises, a team that competed in the Cup Series throughout the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Neil Bonnett, Dick Trickle, and Joe Ruttman were among those to drive for the team, which Rahilly operated with former business partner Butch Mock.

“Cup racing was strictly business, with a lot of money on the line and a lot of pressure. I think a lot of the problems we had when we raced our Cup team were the result of us being a very small team, 18 to 20 people at the maximum," Rahilly told the Charlotte Observer when asked why Rahmoc left the sport's most prestigious circuit.

"The workload we took on led to sleep deprivation and an enormous amount of stress. It wore everybody out. It was a very difficult life.”

Rahmoc doesn't compete in races these days, but they are still a parts supplier for several racing teams in the various circuits. Rahilly is now a crew chief for FDNY Racing, a team that currently competes in NASCAR's Truck Series.

The team says that Rahilly will miss two to three months with his injuries.

"Thoughts and Prayers out to one of our FDNY Racing Crew members. Our own Bob Rahilly was injured in a housefire yesterday afternoon and is in the hospital still with 3rd degree burns and injuries. Please keep your thoughts and prayers with him at this time," FDNY said on social media following the fire.

The NASCAR season will begin in a matter of weeks with the Clash, which will be held at Bowman-Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The venue has hosted local races for decades, and will stage its first Cup Series event since 1971.

FDNY Racing will begin their season without Rahilly at the Fresh From Florida 250, live from Daytona International Speedway on Friday, February 14.
