It's been a rough day for NASCAR fans everywhere. Earlier today NASCAR media legend Al Pearce passed away and now NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon has lost a person extremely dear to his heart as well.
Taking to X a short while ago, Gordon announced that his longtime friend Jon Edwards passed away. In a statement on X, Gordon highlighted what a great person Edwards was and the impact Edwards had on his life and his career.
"I’m devastated by the loss of my dear friend, Jon. For almost three decades, we were side by side through every high and low, every celebration, and every challenge. He was one of the most loyal, hardworking and selfless people I’ve ever known, and I will be forever grateful for his immeasurable impact on my life and my career. My heart is with Jon’s family and everyone who loved him. He was truly one of a kind," Gordon wrote.

Edwards worked as a PR representative in NASCAR for decades, most recently working with Kyle Larson at Hendrick Motorsports.
A short while ago, Hendrick Motorsports released their own statement on his passing:
"It is with profound sadness that we confirme the passing of Jon Edwards, our longtime friend, teammate and director of racing communications.
"Jon was a consummate professional whose remarkable gift for building strong and lasting relationships made him a respected figure in our sport. His impact on Hendrick Motorsports, the NASCAR community and countless individuals cannot be overstated. Above all, Jon was a kind and thoughtful person who carried a genuine passion for our industry, our organization and his many teammates and friends.
"Our thoughts are with Jon's family and all who are grieving this tremendous loss. He will be deeply missed."

FOX NASCAR insider Bob Pockrass shared how heartbroken he was by the news as well.
"Heartbroken when I heard this news. Jon Edwards treated everyone like they were gold. He currently worked as Kyle Larson’s primary PR person at Hendrick because he loved the PR role and life. RIP," Pockrass wrote.
