Joey Logano Exposes the Key to Ryan Blaney’s Nashville Win

NASCAR’s weekend in Nashville was full of action. The Cup Series saw an exciting contest for victory with Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney taking his first win of the season. Blaney managed to overcome his teammate Joey Logano, Spire Motorsports Carson Hocevar and JGR’s Denny Hamlin to head to Victory Lane on Sunday. Now, Logano has revealed the one aspect that led to 31-year-old’s triumph.

Logano, the defending Cup Series champion, led a good part of the Nashville race. However, after almost two-thirds of the 300-lap race, the 35-year-old found himself in a tough spot at the restart. Joey Logano lost the lead to Ryan Blaney, who managed to take the win after leading 139 laps in the race. With Blaney’s victory, Team Penske becomes the only team this year to have all its drivers take at least one win.

Joey Logano blamed the restart for his defeat against his teammate. Though, the Cup Series champion claimed that even if he had stayed put during the restart, things would not have been much different. Logano pointed out that Ryan Blaney simply had a stellar run that allowed him to gain a big advantage.

Moreover, the 35-year-old asserted that it was Blaney who had the best car this weekend, perhaps taking a dig at Team Penske, as the two are teammates in the same garage.

We did the details well, all but the one restart, we lost the lead there, but I don’t think I would have maintained it anyway, That run, (Blaney) was just lights out, which gave him that huge lead. (Blaney had) the best car. Glad the best car won.

Joey Logano said, as quoted by NBC.

Joey Logano names Ryan Blaney’s advantage at Nashville

The Team Penske drivers were at the top of their game during the entire weekend with only minor differences separating Logano and Blaney. Ultimately, it was the 31-year-old who had the upper hand on the reigning Cup Series champion to take victory. While Joey Logano slipped down to fourth place.

Logano did not shy away from mentioning where he lacked pace compared to his younger teammate. The Cup Series champion reckoned that Blaney had the advantage when it came to corners at Nashville, due to the 31-year-old’s incredible precision. In NASCAR, every tenth of a second matters, and Ryan Blaney’s cornering gave him the gains he needed to win the race.

In the corners. He’d do the corners well. He’s really good at being really precise and that’s what the track asked for tonight. Hitting your marks at the bottom of the race track, Ryan’s really good at that.

Joey Logano added.

The 35-year-old might be going back to the drawing board following the race. Joey Logano did show good pace in Nashville but it was simply not enough. For a driver like Logano, losing to your teammate is not an option, after all, your teammate is your first rival.

Thus, the reigning Cup Series champion will be looking to find ways to improve for the next race. On the other hand, Ryan Blaney will be looking to carry this momentum forward in a bid to win more races in the coming weeks.
