A year ago at Nashville Superspeedway, things devolved into nonsense as the Cup Series race went to five overtimes. Josh Berry was having a great run at Nashville until late. Then, he ended up wrecking out during those overtime finishes. Of course, the NASCAR driver is in a different position this year.
Last season, Josh Berry was a rookie in the NASCAR Cup Series with Stewart-Haas Racing, a team that was closing its doors at the end of the year. This season, he’s at Wood Brothers Racing in a much better situation.
Berry also has the benefit of Nashville being his hometown race. The Hendersonville, Tennessee, native is not far from home and is taking in the sweet air of the Volunteer State.
So, how does he see his weekend playing out this time around in Music City? Well, he isn’t changing much, at least not from his approach, even if his current situation is better.
“Yeah, I mean, nothing’s really changed too much from our side of things, right?” Berry said in a media availability at the track. “Just go try to have a good practice and qualifying today. Hopefully, get ourselves some decent track position and a good pit stall and go to work tomorrow and go racing, right?
“Like, we, you know, I feel like this has been a place that I’ve enjoyed coming to and ran pretty well over the years, and speed and everything. I think if, you know, we obviously, [crew chief] Miles [Stanley] and the guys have been doing a great job over the course of the season bringing speed, and if we can just execute, you know, from when we get on a track today, then I think we have a chance at a good finish.”
The 34-year-old is in just his second NASCAR Cup Series season. However, he remains cool, calm, and collected. With a win at Las Vegas earlier this season, Josh Berry has a lot of reason to feel comfortable. But there is still more that can be done.
Berry is probably hoping a successful run on Sunday doesn’t end the same way his Battle of Broadway 150 win did – with a DQ. The Cup driver went to Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway for a little short-track Pro Late Model action. He was hundredths of a percentage outside of the left-side weight tolerances.
Right now, Josh Berry is 17th in points and locked into the playoffs. This week will be important for him. The big picture is on the postseason and being ready to battle over that 10-race period.
