Kyle Busch equates his two-decade wait for a Daytona 500 triumph with Dale Earnhardt’s chase of the Great American race win
Jason Parkhurst-USA TODAY Sports

The Daytona 500 is the most prestigious event in NASCAR and is considered the fourth Crow Jewel Race in the Motorsports world, alongside Indy 400, 24 Hours of LeMans, and F1 Monaco GP. Only an elite few have been able to win the Superspeedway race, and some of the greatest drivers of the sport have never won the Great American Race.

Two-time NASCAR Cup champion Kyle Busch is one of the six champions in the current grid who has never won at the event. 2024 will mark his 20th attempt at securing a victory at the Florida track. Busch is confident going into the event and believes that he could finally end his desperate chase for a win at Daytona as Dale Sr. did with RCR after chasing the title for over 18 years.

Busch conveyed the same message in a recent post, resharing the hype video about the paint scheme for his No:8 Chevy Camaro ZL1 for the Daytona 500. He wrote that he couldn’t wait to secure the championship ring and indirectly mentioned Dale Sr. by pointing out that before him, another driver also waited long to win the race with RCR finally.

Can’t wait to get to Daytona and finally bring home the hardware. 20 years of trying… The same as someone at RCR before. Busch wrote on X.

Is Kyle Busch the greatest driver not to win the Daytona 500

Busch belongs to the unfortunate list of elite drivers who have never tasted triumph at the Daytona 500. From reigning champion Ryan Blaney to Kyle Larson , Chase Elliott, Martin Truex Jr., and Brad Keselowski are active championship winners who haven’t won at Daytona.

Hall of Famers such as Tony Stewart , Mark Martin , and Rusty Wallace haven’t won the event despite dominating the garage In the prime. At the end of the day, the title of greatest driver not to win the Daytona 500 should go to either Busch or Stewart.

The verdict will depend on how much the fans rate each driver in terms of greatness. Considering Kyle Busch has at least five more years of Cup racing left in him, he has the opportunities ahead to secure, so at the moment, Stewart can be given the crown of greatest not to win Daytona 500.
