Kyle Busch’s Spotter Unexpectedly Calls Out Driver for Letting Others Push Him Around

Kyle Busch made headlines on Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway when he joined Richard Childress and announced that he had signed an extension to race for RCR through 2026. Interestingly, during that visit with reporters, the two-time Cup Series champion revealed the reason why the No. 8 team has struggled since the 2023 season when he won three times in the season’s first 15 races.

“When I first joined, you know, I feel like there was some things that we were doing within the rules at that time that got us some extra speed," Busch said. "And then, you know, there was definitely some things that kind of came down that they didn't like us doing. And so that's sort of where we've lost a little bit if people are wondering why have we not been able to win like we did in the first 16 races."

Unsurprisingly, some Rowdy fans have questioned signing the extension with RCR since he’s currently in the midst of his longest winless streak of his career, which reached 70 on Sunday at Charlotte.

During that race, fans of the 40-year-old driver also couldn’t help but wonder about the support from his team when listening to the radio exchange between the driver and his spotter after an incident with eventual race winner Ross Chastain early in the second stage.

“Was that me squeezing the one? Or, was that the one leaving so much space to the wall?” Busch asked.

“Which lap? The four wide?” spotter Derek Kneeland responded.

“No, when I about just wrecked on the front stretch two laps ago,” the driver replied. “He [expletive] flipped me off. Was that my fault or his?”

“Wasn't your fault. You haven't done anything wrong,” his spotter assured him. “You're the one that lets everybody run you all over the track."

“I'm not sure that's an answer,” Busch said after a several seconds of silence.

Busch returns to racing action this Sunday at Nashville. Coverage begins at 6 p.m. ET on Prime.
