Layne Riggs disqualified from Kansas Truck Series race after inspection

Oh no! Despite a heroic effort to finish P2 and almost take the win, Layne Riggs has been disqualified from tonight’s race. The post-race inspection at Kansas found a bed cover issue with Riggs’ truck, he was given a last-place finish. NASCAR found no issue with the winner, Carson Hocevar’s truck.

This is the second disqualification of Layne Riggs’ career. He was disqualified last season at Atlanta in the spring. A tough result after a hard-fought finish and a great 49-point day overall at Kansas.

Flipped off by Hocevar and disqualified? Now that is a rough night in Kansas City.

According to Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports, it was a bed cover violation. He explained in a tweet: “Bed cover material must be strong enough to prevent the cover from defelcting or sagging and must be sealed around the perimeter of all bed panels while the vehicle is in competition.”

An unfortunate end result to tonight. We had a great race to the finish. Maybe we know why Layne Riggs was able to rip the wall so well late in this race…his truck sure was sticking to those corners really well.

Front Row Motorsports will have an opportunity to appeal this decision. That will likely be heard this week, so everyone knows the points situation going into the next race. That is, whether or not the DQ is overturned on appeal or if it is upheld.

Layne Riggs believes he’s bound for the Cup Series

Layne Riggs isn’t scared of anybody. When he is on the race track, I think he believes that he can keep up with anyone who might be racing with him. Cup Series, Xfinity Series, Truck Series – it doesn’t matter where the driver calls home, Riggs is going to give them all they can handle.

You have to admire his toughness and his skill. Yes, he got into Carson Hocevar on the last lap while trying to make the pass for the win, but that’s just good stock car racing, folks! Both drivers made it to the finish, and no one lost their position.

After the race, Layne Riggs was asked about the finish. He appeared to still be wired off the adrenaline of it all. Riggs also made quite a prediction for himself.

“Man, I gave it my all. We were really down bad with the track position there,” Riggs told Josh Sims. “About midway through the third stage, when we were about to take the lead and we did the green flag pit stop, that really hurt us. Had to come from 16th all the way into that green flag run and get all the way back to him. But yeah, last lap I got to him, got into him a little bit, we both hit the wall.

“He won the race, and you know, I think he was mad at me. I think he flipped me off all the way down the frontstretch coming to the checkered, but how can you be mad when you win the race, right? But it’s all good. It’s great to race with them Cup guys, and I think that just proves that I’m going to be there one day.”
