Corey Heim's second Cup Series race ended prematurely after the promising young NASCAR driver got tangled up with Brad Keselowski and ended up with a DNF at Nashville Superspeedway.

Heim thought he was in the clear before running up on Keselowski's No. 6 Ford — which he definitely got the worst of. Still though, Heim made sure to apologize to the 41-year-old veteran after the race while explaining his thought process.

"I'm pretty sure I just kind of cleared myself across the nose of [Brad Keselowski]. A little bit too desperate," Heim told NBC Sports. "We were moving forward really quick and I had a lot of confidence in my Camry and thought I could clear him by the time I got to the wall, and just used too much racetrack, so sorry to those guys. It looks like I kind of ruined his day, too, and never want to do that."

"Just can't say enough about the speed we had," he continued. "I think if we didn't start in 33rd, we could have been battling in the top 10. A lot of positives, just screwed it up on my part. Huge thank you to 23XI, Toyota. Definitely had a lot of fun, and looking forward to doing again."

It's unfortunate that Heim's night ended so early but it's certainly commendable that he took accountability for the wreck.

He'll head back to his regular gig in the Craftsman Truck Series after signing as Michael Jordan's first development driver under 23XI back in February.

"It's a dream come true to be a part of 23XI, and I'm excited for the opportunity to race more Cup and Xfinity races this year," Heim said upon signing. "I'm blessed to have the chance to compete in all three series as I continue to set my sights on full-time Cup racing when that time comes."

"The success that 23XI has shown in only a few short years has been impressive and I'm excited to learn from the organization."
