For the third time this season, Denny Hamlin pulls off the win in the NASCAR Cup Series. This time in the Irish Hills of Michigan. As he continues to get older, Hamlin continues to win races. Could this actually be the year he goes all the way and wins that elusive championship?
There was more than just on-track news and action. We had a new manufacturer announcement become official after months of reports and leaks. A fourth OEM is back in the sport, and that is great news for NASCAR.
Before we head south of the border for road course racing in Mexico City, let’s break down what happened this weekend in Michigan. It was a fun one.
The Michigan weekend got started with a little bit of ARCA Menards Series action on Friday night. Corey Heim and Gio Ruggiero were both in the race, but it didn’t matter.
Brenden “Butterbean” Queen was once again a winner. It was his third win of the season, all three coming on big tracks. Daytona, Kansas, and Michigan. Is Butterbean marching to the championship?
In his return to the Truck Series and Spire Motorsports, Corey LaJoie had a lot going on this weekend. However, his analogy for what it felt like to go back to his old Cup organization in the Truck Series was…strange.
LaJoie compared it to being kicked out by your wife and then moving into the guest room a year later after she got a new boyfriend. Yeah…I’m not sure about all that, but good for him.

Doing what he usually does before the Cup Series race, Kyle Larson was slinging dirt in High Limit and the World of Outlaws. The Outlaws race ended early for Larson on Lap 7 as his right rear axle broke.
Larson tumbled and was thrown into the air and into the catchfence. Amazingly, the driver was fine, and cut an interview right there on the track as the safety crew got his car towed away.
I loved watching the NASCAR Truck Series race on Saturday afternoon. Great passes, really strong runs. Yes, it started to get messy at the end as restarts became more common and drivers were trying to play games to get an advantage.
However, Stewart Friesen breaking his 72-race winless streak was fantastic. That team needed a win this year and they got it.
Onto NASCAR Cup Series action, Chase Briscoe was once again fantastic in qualifying. He earned his third straight pole award. But does it really matter?
Once again, Briscoe found himself with a less-than-ideal finish after starting P1. He only has one top-10 finish during this pole-winning streak.
We're back in America's motorsport, the HEMI® V8 is back, and we ain't here to mess around. LFG. pic.twitter.com/H6EqU5d1VN

The biggest news of the weekend was definitely the return of Ram Trucks to the NASCAR Truck Series. This is what everyone has been waiting for since Dodge/Ram left NASCAR in 2012.
Stellantis appears ready to field four to six teams at Daytona in 2026. However, those deals have yet to be made. A return to the Cup Series for Dodge is the “intent” right now for the automaker.
Once again, Alex Bowman takes an insanely big hit in the NASCAR Next Gen car. Bowman hit the wall head-on after getting caught up in a mess in the back of the pack.
Bowman appeared to be fine afterwards. However, hits like the one he took cause minor injuries all the time. 25 years ago, we might be talking about a very serious injury after a hit like he took.
The hometown hero was up front and leading for 32 laps on Sunday. Carson Hocevar had the speed to win on Sunday, but not the right pit strategy.
Hocevar was too low on fuel to make it to the end. That didn’t matter anyway, as he blew a left rear tire and had to go down pit road. He finished P29 a lap down, but that win is coming.

As Carson Hocear went to pit road, it opened the door for William Byron and Denny Hamlin to fight over the win. Then, Byron ran out of fuel and had to hit pit road himself.
Hamlin pulled away from Chris Buescher and his JGR teammate, Ty Gibbs. Third win of the year for Hamlin, and he got to troll Michigan fans with a classic “O-H-I-O.”
In the Prime Video post-race show, Dale Earnhardt Jr. made a bold claim. He believes that William Byron is passing Kyle Larson as the best driver at Hendrick Motorsports.
Now, I’m not a NASCAR Hall of Famer like Dale Jr., but that is a bold claim. I’m not too sure the numbers support it, but Byron has been leading a ton of laps this season and definitely passes the eye test. Unfortunately, he let another win slip through his fingers after leading 98 laps.
