NASCAR veteran gets golden opportunity for Truck Series race at Talladega

A NASCAR veteran will have the opportunity of a lifetime for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway on Oct. 17.

J.J. Yeley, who is yet to win a race in any of NASCAR's top-three series, will drive the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet in the Truck Series playoff race at Talladega. It will be his first Truck Series start since 2020.

Getting to know J.J. Yeley

Yeley, a 49-year-old native of Phoenix, Arizona, has made 394 starts in the NASCAR Cup Series, 393 starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and 36 starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

The Spire No. 7 has been one of the most successful vehicles in the Truck Series with an array of drivers in recent years. It's currently ninth in the Truck Series owner standings and has won two races this year, including a race at a drafting track in EchoPark Speedway with Kyle Busch in February.

Yeley will have a fast track underneath him and plenty of Spire and Chevrolet teammates to work with at Talladega. The 2.66-mile superspeedway is a track that lends itself to first-time winners and underdog stories, and a Yeley victory on Oct. 17 would certainly fit those categories.

The Love's RV Stops 225 at Talladega is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on Oct. 17, with coverage on FS1, NRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
