Kyle Larson and Ryan Blaney and their duel at the World Wide Technology Raceway was the one to witness as the two put forth some great racing action. Both Blaney and Larson were battling fiercely for fifth place near the end of Stage 2.
However, the two were involved in an accident as Blaney’s chances to score a positive finish were ruined from thereon. Now, the #12 driver issues a warning to the HMS star amid his antics at Gateway. Both Cup Series champions in Kyle Larson and Ryan Blaney, raced close to one another and fought for the P5 position for the majority of Stage 2 at the Enjoy Illinois 300.
Blaney seemed to have the upper hand and was running ahead of the HMS driver mid-way through the race. However, Larson seemed desperate to make a move on the #12 driver and rammed his car into the rear of the Penske star, sending the latter spinning off the track.
Ryan Blaney lost control of the car but safely avoided hitting the wall and ending his race early. However, by the end of the race, Kyle Larson got hit with karma and could only finish in P12, losing crucial position. Meanwhile, Blaney went on to achieve a great turnaround in results and finished P4 and scored great points in the playoff race. As such, the #12 driver wasn’t that angry with Larson by the end of the race.
Ryan Blaney insisted that even though Kyle Larson’s crash into him wasn’t with malicious intent, he would still remember it. Blaney pointed out that he still got crashed into and had to work hard to move up the pack. Hence, the 31-year-old would keep it in the back of his mind for the next time he sees Larson racing on the track and run him a bit tighter and make his life difficult on the track.
Even though it wasn’t done with malicious intent, I’ll still remember it. I still got the s**t end of it and got turned around and had to come from the back. You remember stuff like that. It’s not anything grudgey or something like that; it’s just those racing situations that you think about the next time you run with that person.
Ryan Blaney told NASCAR.com.
At first, Kyle Larson managed to keep control of his car after ramming into Ryan Blaney and took the P5 spot away from him. Larson suffered from a botched pit stop strategy and lost crucial positions on track to ultimately finish in P12.
Meanwhile, Blaney managed to achieve a great turnaround in results and moved up the pecking order, showcasing his racing talent. As such, the #12 driver was glad for a positive finish despite the incident with the HMS driver.
However, if Ryan Blaney hadn’t finished in P4, he revealed that it would have been a completely different conversation with Kyle Larson. Blaney added that while discussing the matter with the HMS star, he simply wanted an explanation behind the incident and why he was spun out on the track. The 31-year-old revealed how Larson came from all the way back of the track and bumped into him, sending him spinning.
If we (hadn’t) recovered as well as we did, it probably would have been a different conversation, I just tried to get an understanding (why) he came from all the way at the bottom of the race track all the way up and hit me in the left rear, so I was just trying to get a clear understanding of that.
Ryan Blaney added
Despite a P12 finish for Kyle Larson, he holds a +60 points cushion over the elimination and is definitely going to advance to the next round. Meanwhile, Ryan Blaney’s P4 finish has helped his cushion increase to +42 points.
But Blaney will still have to keep up with such results to ensure his chances of moving to the next rounds with ease. The battle between the two would be interesting to witness at Bristol as the #12 driver is definitely not going to make life any easier for the HMS star.
