Trackhouse Racing sees two drivers suffer brake failures early at Nashville

Before the first stage of Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at Nashville Superspeedway was complete, two of Trackhouse Racing's three drivers suffered brake rotor failures that knocked them out of the Cracker Barrel 400.

Rookie Connor Zilisch took his No. 88 Chevy to the garage after being the first casualty of a brake issue on Lap 73. The failure occurred as Zilisch entered turn 1, with Zilisch taking his car to the garage.

"Honestly, I don't know," Zilisch told the Prime Video telecast. "It's a bit of a surprise. Cars were fast. Ross and I both started the back and were moving forward. Just unfortunate circumstances."

Brake failure also bites Ross Chastain

Zilisch's teammate, Ross Chastain, suffered a brake failure just eight laps later on Lap 81. The failure also happened in turn 1, with Chastain also taking his No. 1 to the garage for repairs.

Even if Zilisch or Chastain get back into the race, neither will be in contention. That's a big blow for two drivers who needed a good race on Sunday.

Chastain and Zilisch entered Sunday's race 23rd and 33rd in the Cup Series standings, respectively. Their teammate, Shane van Gisbergen, briefly led on Sunday evening, but his No. 97 team is likely on pins and needles after seeing their teammates both have brake issues.
