Alvin Kamara breaks silence about uncertain future with Saints

New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore raised eyebrows when he revealed that Alvin Kamara reported for Wednesday’s voluntary OTA practice.

Kamara's future with the Saints is up in the air for reasons that go beyond the fact that the club signed fellow ball-carrier Travis Etienne Jr. to a four-year deal reportedly worth $52M earlier this offseason. While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Kamara opened up about what could be an awkward situation for everybody involved.

Alvin Kamara knows he, Saints have to make business decisions

"It's a business both ways: on the team side and on the player side," Kamara said, per Katherine Terrell of ESPN. "I always try to tell young dudes, anybody, when they ask me about how I navigate some of this stuff, it's like, man, 'You got to treat it like a business, you know what I'm saying?' So you don't get caught off guard. So nothing catching me off guard, man."

It's thought that the Saints could make Kamara a salary-cap casualty at some point this spring or summer. For an article published on Thursday, ESPN's Dan Graziano mentioned that New Orleans could shop Kamara at some point before the trade deadline arrives.

Kamara has one year left on his contract and turns 31 years old in July.

"I haven't had any conversations in regards to that, so I don't know," Kamara said about money attached to his contract. "I think there's a time and a place for everything. If that conversation comes up, then I'll have an answer for you when it comes up."

Kamara also said he has "no beef or no bad blood" with Moore or Saints general manager Mickey Loomis.

Alvin Kamara "prepared" to play for Saints

It remains to be seen how much money the Saints want to pay running backs for the upcoming campaign. Theoretically, one would think that Moore would be in favor of any plan that involves making life easier for quarterback Tyler Shough during Shough's second pro season.

That said, it's unclear if Kamara would be willing to give his current employer any kind of discount to stay put.

"Look, I'm prepared. I'm under contract. I still got my locker," Kamara added. "That's really why I came. My locker's still here. My fingerprint still works on the door. I guess I'm here, right? That's what that means. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, man, I'm good."
