It was a rough season for the Philadelphia 76ers last year as they finished 13th in the Eastern Conference standings with a disappointing 24-58 record.
Of course the 76ers entered last season expected to be a championship contender after pairing Paul George alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey but injuries to their stars proved to be the ultimate factor in their poor season.
Now Philadelphia will look to bounce back this season, but they will need Embiid to stay healthy and George to not only stay healthy, but play much better than he did last season.
Either way, the 76ers could look to make changes to their roster at some point ahead of the trade deadline and these three players could be potential trade candidates.
It was a disappointing first season in Philadelphia for George last year as he played in only 41 games due to injuries and when he was on the court, he did not look like his usual self.
The 35-year-old forward averaged only 16.2 points per game last season, which was the lowest of his career since his second season in the NBA where he averaged 12.1 points per game.
If George is unable to return to form this season, the 76ers may look to move on from him, though it may be difficult to trade him due to his age and contract.
Andre Drummond had a solid first season with the 76ers last year despite only playing 40 games due to injury.
The 32-year-old center averaged 7.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game and if Embiid misses time again this season, he would be in line to be Philadelphia’s starting center.
Despite this, the 76ers could also look to move the veteran center this season as he could draw interest from many contending teams who are in desperate need of frontcourt depth, especially if Philadelphia struggles once again.
Outside of Maxey, Kelly Oubre Jr. was arguably the 76ers’ second-best player last season and he has played a key role for the team over the past two seasons.
Last season, the 29-year-old forward averaged 15.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game as the 76ers’ starting forward, though he could see a cut in minutes this season with their addition of V.J. Edgecomb this offseason in the draft.
If that ends up being the case, Philadelphia may listen to offers for Oubre Jr., who could draw interest from multiple teams around the NBA due to his scoring abilities and defensive play.
While the 76ers could look to move these players, they may also hold off on doing so, especially if their stars can stay healthy which will likely have them as a top team in the East this season as they try to make a run at a title.
