The Sacramento Kings missed the playoffs once again last season and while many expected them to begin a rebuild this offseason after trading De’Aaron Fox last season, that has not been the case.
Instead, the Kings have kept their core of Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine together this summer and they have also made some notable additions to their roster.
Sacramento selected Nique Clifford and Maxime Raynaud in the 2025 draft and they then landed Dennis Schroder in free agency via a sign-and-trade with the Detroit Pistons to fill their void at the starting point guard position.
With these moves, the Kings are hoping to make a run at a playoff spot in the West this season.
Despite this, they could also look to make more moves ahead of the trade deadline and if that is the case, they could target these three players.
The Kings are in desperate need of depth at the point guard position and Jrue Holiday could be a potential target for them if the Portland Trail Blazers decide to move him.
The veteran guard is a great scorer, playmaker and defender, all of which the Kings need in their backcourt.
Sacramento may also be able to land him at a cheap price and he could become a key piece to help them fight for a playoff spot this season.
It has been reported that the Kings offered Jonathan Kuminga a contract in free agency this summer but they were unable to meet the Golden State Warriors’ high asking price to acquire him in a sign-and-trade.
Despite this, Sacramento could show interest in the young forward again ahead of the trade deadline as the Warriors are expected to try and move him.
Kuminga would give the Kings another young player to build around while also helping them improve their forward depth.
T.J. McConnel could be another point guard the Kings could target this season as they try to bolster their backcourt depth.
The veteran guard is a solid scorer but is more well-known for his playmaking and defensive skills, something the Kings desperately need at the point guard position.
Of course, the Indiana Pacers could also look to keep McConnell on their roster this season, especially with them set to be without Tyrese Haliburton due to injury, but if they do decide to move him, Sacramento could show interest.
While the Kings could target all three players, they could also look elsewhere to upgrade their roster to make a push for a playoff spot this season.
