As the 2025 NBA Draft was just days away, the Texas guard Tre Johnson started generating some buzz as a potential late riser.
Since the Philadelphia 76ers remain undecided on their move, some have suggested that Johnson is a name to keep an eye on as a potential dark horse candidate for the Sixers, or the third draft slot, in general.
A lot of caution would have to be added to the idea of the Sixers reaching for Johnson at No. 3, but he could be an ideal trade-back candidate for Philadelphia.

Tre Johnson just seems right for Moreyball. In 33 games at Texas, the freshman guard averaged 6.8 threes per game. He knocked down his shots from beyond the arc at a 40 percent clip, but it’s not just about standing deep away from the basket and chucking up shots for the former Longhorn. Johnson proved to be an all-around threat on the court, as he averaged around 20 points per game in college.
Maybe the Dallas, Texas, connection with Tyrese Maxey is strong enough to get the Sixers to bring in the 19-year-old to learn from their All-Star guard.

On Tuesday, Trent Grisham decided to accept the qualifying offer worth $22.025 million tendered to him by the New York Yankees as a reward for his career-year in 2025. Grisham became the Yankees’ everyday centerfielder and he made that position his, smashing a career-best 34 home runs and driving in 74 runs on an OPS of .812. As per FanGraphs, his contributions last year were worth 3.2 WAR — a performance that the Yankees then deemed worthy of trying to keep. Perhaps the Yankees felt as though there would be a bigger market for Grisham in free agency, which is why they tendered the qualifying offer. Alas, Grisham doesn’t exactly have the kind of track record that would make any other team commit that much money to him annually on a long-term deal. Thus, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, there appears to be some surprise among the Yankees brass that Grisham decided to return to the team on the QO. “I think there were some Yankees people that were somewhat surprised by this decision,” Heyman said. The third College Football Playoff rankings of the 2025 season were released on Tuesday night with Ohio State, Indiana, Texas A M, Georgia and Texas Tech making up the top five. The Bulldogs and Red Raiders each move up one spot with Alabama falling down to 10th after a 23-21 loss to Oklahoma on Saturday. Ole Miss, Oregon, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Alabama round out the top 10. The Big Ten and SEC continue their dominance by claiming eight of the top-10 spots, but the SEC looks to be in the best position of any league with five teams in the top 10, even with Alabama's second loss of the season. Alabama clings to playoff spot as SEC's outlook only grows stronger Here is a look at what the 12-team bracket would look like as of Tuesday: The biggest takeaway from this week's rankings is the position the SEC finds itself in. Texas A M, Georgia and Ole Miss appear to be in excellent shape, while Oklahoma and Alabama still find themselves in the projected field. Texas was the biggest loser, falling seven spots to No. 17 after its loss to Georgia. Even for Alabama, which suffered its second loss on Saturday, it could still find itself in the SEC Championship game depending on how everything plays out over the final two weeks, which could only strengthen its case even more. Miami remains the highest-ranked ACC team at No. 13, ahead of No. 16 Georgia Tech and No. 19 Virginia. With the five highest-ranked conference champions guaranteed to make the 12-team field, Miami would inherit the 11-seed as things currently stand. Following South Florida's loss to Navy, Tulane moves up to No. 24 and the 12th-seed as the highest-ranked Group of Five team. No. 11 BYU would be the first team out following the third reveal. Senators are the clear winner in trade with Flyers
Good news for Ottawa Senators fans, as the franchise accelerated its timeline to be competitive in the 2025-26 season following the official announcement of a trade on Monday. Ottawa and Philadelphia have swapped two defensemen. The Senators acquire Dennis Gilbert, while the Flyers receive Maxence Guenette. "We’ve acquired defenseman Maxence Guenette from Ottawa in exchange for defenseman Dennis Gilbert. We have also agreed to terms with Guenette on a one-year, two-way contract," the Flyers announced. Why Dennis Gilbert is a perfect fit for the Senators' blue line The Senators didn't just make a trade; they plugged a hole on their blue line. Gilbert, 29, can enter the lineup immediately or be the first call-up to cover injuries, back-to-backs, and PK, without a steep learning curve. The defenseman has NHL experience with 111 games in six seasons, so he's a safer bet to integrate into the lineup than a prospect who hasn't yet proven himself at the highest level. Gilbert fits seamlessly under the salary cap and allows them to move pieces on the blue line without sacrificing picks or cap space. He signed for one year with the Senators with a cap hit of $875,000. Furthermore, he will improve the baseline play of the third pair and reliably handle five-on-five and PK minutes in emergency scenarios. Ottawa traded an RFA for a player who can contribute from day one. Gilbert's physical but disciplined game fits coach Travis Green's needs. So, the Senators turned a future lottery ticket into a known commodity. Guenette, 24, needed minutes in the NHL and a clear pathway. The Senators could not offer him that and opted for more roster certainty.
