Former NBA star Carmelo Anthony is set to be immortalized in the basketball world. On Sept. 5 and 6, the Basketball Hall of Fame is set to induct Anthony as a first-ballot Hall of Famer. The 10-time All-Star will be joined by Dwight Howard, Sue Bird, Maya Moore, and Sylvia Fowles. Both Melo and Howard will be presented on the stage twice during the event, as they are also part of the 2008 Team USA that will be honored.

Fans have been waiting for the moment when Anthony will be honored. With his impact in the NBA and on the international stage, it was already expected that he’d be honored in such a way. The former star retired from basketball in May 2023. He spent 19 years in the league and was one of the best offensive stars when he was in his prime.

On the latest episode of his show, “7PM in Brooklyn,” the former New York Knicks star teased fans that he’s already written his speech for his big day.

“A tear coming down for sure,” Anthony said. “That’s the moment. Fam, kids, people that you grew up with… the speech is written.

“You reflecting on your whole high school, college, USA basketball. It’s more to just the 19 years [in the NBA]. You gotta go back and reflect on playing little league.”

Carmelo Anthony is one of the most decorated stars in the league and finished his career averaging 22.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists. The 6-foot-8 forward was also part of the historic 2003 NBA draft with LeBron James and his fellow Hall of Famers, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade.

Carmelo Anthony will make debut as a studio analyst in the Thunder-Rockets game

One of the highly anticipated games in the 2025-26 NBA season is the first matchup between the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder. Both teams will face each other when the season starts, on Oct. 21. It will also serve as the Thunder’s Ring Night.

According to Today.com, Carmelo Anthony will be part of the broadcast team that night for NBC as a studio analyst. The program will be hosted by Maria Taylor, together with Hall of Famer Vince Carter.

Anthony shares history with both teams. After his stint with the Knicks, he joined the Thunder and appeared in 78 games. He was the veteran star who served as a third option for their Big 3 with Russell Westbrook and Paul George. Following that, he joined the Rockets.

However, his time in Houston did not last, as he only appeared in 10 games before he was traded to the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls eventually waived him.
