After spending the past eight seasons in the NBA, free agent point guard Aaron Holiday will continue his career overseas, per Johnny Askounis of Eurohoops.
The Italian team Maxima Roma put out a press release on Wednesday stating that it has signed Holiday for the 2026/27 season. Maxima Roma is entering its first season in Italy’s top domestic league (Lega Basket Seria A) and the EuroCup after having acquired Pallacanestro Brescia’s sporting license and relocated the team to Rome.
“I am extremely proud to join Maxima Roma and take on my first challenge in European basketball,” Holiday said in a statement. “For me and my family, this represents an important step and an exciting opportunity, as I immediately sensed the club’s tremendous faith and the serious ambition behind this project. Having played at the highest level in the NBA motivates me to bring that winning mentality, leadership, and intensity here every single day.”
The younger brother of fellow NBA veterans Jrue Holiday and Justin Holiday, Aaron was the 23rd overall pick in the 2018 draft and spent his first three NBA seasons in Indiana. He bounced around the league during the next two years, playing for Washington, Phoenix, and Atlanta, before spending the past three seasons in Houston.
One of the NBA’s steadiest reserve point guards for years, Holiday holds career averages of 6.4 points, 1.9 assists, and 1.5 rebounds in 16.1 minutes per game and a career shooting line of .421/.384/.852 over the course of 505 regular season appearances (67 starts).
Even though Houston was missing Fred VanVleet due to a torn ACL last season, Holiday earned just 13.7 minutes per night in 57 regular season games, though he was part of the postseason rotation, averaging 11.2 MPG and seeing the floor in all six of the Rockets’ first-round contests.
Holiday is the third player with NBA experience to sign with Maxima Roma this offseason, joining Matt Ryan and Xavier Moon.
