Even without DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine, the do-it-all veteran supported the shorthanded Chicago Bulls to snatch an upset against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night, 120-113, to finally stop their 5-game losing skid and temporarily take a massive huge sigh of relief from their ongoing struggles.
Caruso tallied 11 huge points, including a crucial three to force the game to overtime. His shot sent the entire United Center into a frenzy and boosted the Bulls to win it in the extra period.
For Caruso, his cold-blooded trifecta is not a lucky shot but just the sweet fruit of his labor throughout the offseason.
A matter of fact that coach Billy Donovan entrusted him to take it and fill the hero presence of DeRozan and LaVine – who frequently take the last shot for the Bulls – the veteran can't be more glad enough to deliver when it mattered most.
"I don’t think it’s that difficult because I shoot that a lot in the summer playing open gym and then playing in August and September when we come back with the guys," Caruso said. "I just don’t get the opportunity to shoot a lot because usually I’m the guy taking the ball out. I was excited that I got to shoot.”
What Caruso stated is indeed a fact as this 2023-24 continues to be the best offensive season of his career. His 47.5 percent three-point shooting speaks volumes of how he was able to get the clutch trey to push their ball game for a five-minute extension against the Bucks.
In the end, what motivated Caruso to wear his cape for Chicago was his turnovers tallied against Milwaukee. The 29-year-old held the biggest chunk (7) of the team's 21 collective errors – a season-high.
But more than anything else, Caruso felt rejuvenated to feel the electrifying energy of the Bulls crowd once again – a welcoming moment in the wake of their struggles so far this year.
“It's always fun when we support each other and have energy like that. It raises everybody's energy,” he added.
