Watch: Anthony Edwards sits out an offensive possession

Anthony Edwards is a big part of the Timberwolves' offense. Unless they run plays that aren't for him.

During one possession in Minnesota's win against the Houston Rockets, Edwards stood unmoving just outside the three-point line with his hands on his hips. Four Timberwolves touched the ball while Edwards stood motionless, not even moving when Jordan McLaughlin missed a jumper from the corner. Eventually defender Tari Eason realized he wasn't going to do any activity at all, and left Edwards to collapse in the lane to help corral the rebound.

Minnesota still won by 12, after leading by 19 points at halftime, and Edwards was a game-high +20 in his 33 minutes, scoring 19 points. For the season, he's upped his scoring to 22.8 points per game (from last year's 21.3) and he's doing it more efficiently. But he's doing it with less team basketball. Only 29.3 percent of his two-point attempts and 51.7 percent of his threes are assisted this year, well down from his first two seasons - his career numbers are 37.2 percent and 58.3 percent respectively.

This could be explained by Edwards resting on offensive plays that aren't for him, but it also could be a result of the Wolves' changes at point guard. As a rookie, Edwards had Ricky Rubio, who averaged nearly as many assists as shot attempts. In his second year, Patrick Beverley played point guard. This year, the primary point guard is the shoot-first D'Angelo Russell, who isn't focused as much on setting up Edwards.

Whatever the cause, Edwards needs to move more. The T-Wolves improved to 9th in defensive rating this season, but dropped to 20th on the offensive side. They're going to need to do better if they hope to improve from their 5-5 start.
