Anthony Edwards Is Pleased With His Historic Shooting Season

Since Anthony Edwards broke into the top level of basketball, he has always been branded as an athletic player. His play style revolved around slashing into the paint and finishing with poster dunks or acrobatic layups. This helped him become the top prospect in the 2020 NBA Draft, getting selected first overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the loaded class.

As he grew as an NBA player, Ant realized he needed to improve his game, especially with his three-point shooting. In the past few seasons, he has shown progress with his shooting, but he took a significant leap in the 2024-25 season, becoming the NBA's most prolific shooter.

In the Timberwolves' 81st game of the season, Edwards hit one three-pointer, taking his total to 313 makes from downtown. He is set to finish within the top three, as Malik Beasley has 312 and Stephen Curry has 304 makes, as both players still have one game left.

Edwards will most likely not get the chance to add to his tally because he was given a technical foul against the Brooklyn Nets. That takes him to 18 on the season, which leads to a one-game suspension to be served against the Jazz in the Timberwolves' final game of the season.

Edwards Takes Pride In His Development

Ant has always been a superstar talent with a natural knack for scoring. He loves getting the ball into the basket, but he has become more diverse with his shot selection.

The 23-year-old has taken significant strides in his game. He is now taking and making pull-up and step-back three-pointers. Those shots were not in his arsenal in the past, but he is reliably making them now.

Edwards finishes the season shooting 39.5% on threes on 10.2 attempts per game. Only Stephen Curry has shot more attempts and been as efficient at 11.2 per game on 39.5%. Being in that company is huge for Ant because it shows his elite shooting ability.

"I'm super happy the work has showed. But, that goes to show when I put my head down and lock in to do something," Edwards said after the Nets game. "This time I'm trying to get good at mid-range (shooting), really good at mid-range and keep my trey ball going."

Edwards' Game Will Continue To Develop

At only 23, Edwards will only keep growing from here. He already has so much in his skill set, but he still has room to improve. Ant is one of the most complete scorers in the game, but he can still develop as a playmaker.

Edwards is already the most "blitzed" player in the league, so the playmaking opportunities are there. It is up to him and the Timberwolves to execute better so the offense can keep shining.

With his three-point shooting and slashing ability, it is already hard to defend Edwards. When he rounds out his offensive skill set, he will be nearly unstoppable, which bodes well for Minnesota's long-term future with him as the centerpiece.
