Anthony Edwards has taken the torch from former teammate Karl-Anthony Towns and let his old friend hear it afterward.
Edwards went on a heater last week, posting back-to-back 40-point games.
What's even more impressive is he did so on a back-to-back; scoring 49 points in a 127-108 win over the Chicago Bulls on Feb. 5, followed by a 41-point game in a 127-114 win against the Houston Rockets on Thursday, Feb. 6.
In 24 hours, Edwards tied and surpassed Towns for the franchise record for career 40-point games and had a hilarious response afterward.
In the postgame locker room, Edwards was wide-eyed when asked about breaking Towns' record as it happened in the blink of an NBA season.
Then, he snapped right into the playful trash-talking with his former teammate and lasting friend shortly after.
"KAT just texted me too, yeah," Edwards chuckled. "Shoutout to KAT, man. He always be texting me. I text him after every game, he text me after every game. Yeah KAT, you second my boy."

It was another candid moment with the emphatic 23-year-old who also set an NBA record on Thursday.
Edwards became the youngest player in league history to reach 1,000 made 3-pointers.
More importantly, Edwards has energized a Timberwolves team that is turning a corner as the No. 6 team in the Western Conference nearing the All-Star break.
The Wolves (30-23) are riding a three-game winning streak despite missing Donte DiVincenzo and Julius Randle from the lineup and have won eight of their past 10 games.
Most recently, the Timberwolves ousted a hot Portland Trailblazers team 114-98 on Feb. 9 without Edwards (hip, day-to-day) or Mike Conley (finger, day-to-day) in the lineup as well.
Jaden McDaniels led the way with 30 points, followed by Naz Reid with 23 points, Nickeil Alexander-Walker with 21 points and Rudy Gobert with 15 points.
Rookie Rob Dillingham scored eight points and dished six assists, while sophomore breakout star Jaylen Clark made his mark defensively, posting 11 points, three steals and three rebounds.
The Trailblazers had won 10 of their last 11 games before the loss.
