The Cleveland Cavaliers were the best team in the Eastern Conference last season.
After all, the Cleveland Cavaliers finished the regular season with a 64-18 record, second only to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Despite attaining the best record in the Eastern Conference, the Cavaliers still faced a second-round exit in the 2025 NBA Playoffs.
However, the Cavs’ front office didn’t make any major changes to their roster ahead of the new campaign, and NBA expert Bill Simmons loves this the most about the team.
In the modern era, many teams tend to give up too soon on their core of stars following a couple of underwhelming campaigns.
However, the Cavs barely making any changes to their roster this offseason earned the respect of Simmons.
“Cleveland, I actually like that nothing happened with them, and that they had to just be like, ‘All right, we lost last year. Let’s let’s bring it back.’
“I’m saying like they kept their nucleus. They didn’t be like, ‘Oh, we lost, let’s trade [Darius] Garland, oh, we gotta do this,'” Simmons said on his podcast.
Considering the Cavs also have the reigning NBA Coach of the Year in Kenny Atkinson, it makes no sense to blow up their core.
“They’re going to run back a team that won 64 games, which I don’t feel like people do anymore,” Simmons concluded.
In theory, sticking to their current core sounds good. But it won’t take fans long to turn on that decision if the Cavaliers do not present results.
While the 2025-26 NBA regular season is yet to begin, Cavs Nation saw their team in action during the preseason opener vs. the Chicago Bulls.
It was a terrific game, but the Bulls ultimately handed a 118-117 defeat to the Cavaliers.
Sure, it’s just the preseason, but starting off any competition with a win serves as an excellent morale booster for players. The Cavs will hope to bounce back in their rematch against the Bulls.
