Jerami Grant has had a strong start to the new NBA season for the Portland Trail Blazers, who will be in action on Wednesday night against the Chicago Bulls. In 13 games played thus far, the 6-foot-7 forward has averaged 18.3 points on 46.4% shooting, 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 27.8 minutes per contest. Grant is also knocking down 2.1 triples per game on a highly efficient 40.3% clip.
Grant’s hot start came to a halt on Tuesday, though, as the Blazers suffered a 127-110 loss to the Phoenix Suns. Grant missed his first game of the season due to an illness — one that has cast doubt on his status for Wednesday’s matchup against the Bulls.
Grant is currently in his 12th season in the NBA and his fourth with the Trail Blazers. In 2023, he signed a five-year, $160 million extension with Portland, which will keep him with the team through 2028. The former Syracuse Orange standout holds a player option on his contract for the 2027-28 season.
After scoring 26 points in his first start of the season in Sunday’s 138-133 overtime loss to Cooper Flagg and the Dallas Mavericks, Grant was suddenly out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game. The 31-year-old was unable to play due to an illness, which continues to persist ahead of Wednesday’s matchup against the Bulls.
Grant was initially listed as questionable to play due to his illness. The Blazers announced roughly an hour before tip-off, however, that he has been cleared to play.

It is worth noting that Jrue Holiday (calf) remains out for Wednesday’s contest, which is the second night of a back-to-back set for Portland. The Blazers will rest Robert Williams, while Shaedon Sharp (calf) will sit out again.
Portland enters Wednesday’s contest with a 6-8 record. They are looking for their first win in four games.
