The NBA Season is almost here, and every player is hyped up. One of those players is Milwaukee Bucks Power Forward Bobby Portis. He is entering his 11th year in the NBA, which is a super impressive accomplishment on its own. Portis is entering his sixth season with the Bucks, and it’s clear he is loyal to the team. Portis is so loyal that he likes the Bucks’ chances this season.
Portis was recently on ESPN Milwaukee’s radio station for an interview, and it is a solid 13-minute listen. Portis was asked about the team in general and whether they are contenders this year. Portis answered with the following statement.
“I mean, what’s wrong with our team? Why can’t we do it this year? The only thing wrong with us is people being hurt.”
Portis is excited about the season, and the man said the right things in his response. He isn’t going to trash the team and get himself in hot water with the locker room. Nobody wants a “Negative Nancy” on their team, and coming into the season with confidence never hurts anybody, despite many fans not 100% agreeing with him.
Here is the reason not to get excited, though: Doc Rivers is still there as the head coach. While in the NBA, coaching does not matter compared to the other big leagues, Rivers fundamentally helps his team lose games. It is hard to get behind an NBA team with Rivers as the coach, and the Bucks better win quickly with the rumors of Giannis Antetokounmpo wanting out. Although maybe keeping Doc Rivers’ presence will prevent Giannis from leaving.
The Bucks are a team with many question marks. It also did not help that the Bucks lost some notable pieces during the offseason. Damian Lillard parted ways with the franchise and reunited with Portland in the offseason. Brook Lopez departed and signed a contract with the Los Angeles Clippers during free agency. Pat Connaughton, a solid depth piece, was traded to the Charlotte Hornets. Those are three solid pieces that left the team. At least they signed Myles Turner, who was a liability for the Pacers during the NBA Finals.
Portis comes across as a nice person and a great guy to have in the locker room. Well, if he’s not getting suspended for PED usage. Any franchise in the NBA is going to welcome the positive words Portis said, as it shows his motivation for the franchise. Heck, those kind words could even help motivate others as well, entering the 2025 NBA season. Maybe it could help Antetokounmpo want to stay in Milwaukee as those departure rumors continue to grow by the day.
