AJ Green scored 22 points to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a preseason win.
Amid all the talk about Giannis Antetokounmpo and his future, the Milwaukee Bucks put the focus back on basketball with their preseason schedule.
The Bucks took on Eastern Conference rivals Detroit Pistons and emerged 117-111 winners, despite the brilliance from Cade Cunningham. He scored 26/6/6 in their loss.
Giannis did not play, and it was up to the rest of the Bucks roster to prove their worth. AJ Green was the player who stood out.
AJ Green led the Milwaukee Bucks with 22/3/3. The next highest Milwaukee Bucks scorer was Bobby Portis with 11.
Green shot 100 percent, scoring all of his five three-point attempts, and also going 5-5 from the free-throw line.
Speaking to Bucks media after the game, Bobby Portis explained how AJ Green has continued to impress him with his commitment and attitude.
Portis explained: “I think sometimes as a NBA player there’s only two things you can control every day, your work ethic and your attitude.
“His work ethic is second to none, always in the gym putting up shots, doing the extra work before and after practice.
“His attitude, team first guy, that’s the two things you can control, everything else the dominos fall where they fall.
“I like where he started at and worked his way up, and he’s earned everything he has. Shoutout to AJ. I like when guys come into the league and earn their keep, there’s something like that that doesn’t go unnoticed from the coaches to the players.”
AJ Green played 73 regular season games for the Milwaukee Bucks, but he only started seven of them.
In his third season in the league, Green averaged a best-yet 22.2 minutes per game, and 7.4 points per game.
He played 27.2 minutes per game in the Bucks’ five postseason games, averaging 11.0 points per game.
This latest preseason game suggests he is ready to continue his improvement. Bobby Portis is clearly a believer.
