The Toronto Raptors selected Collin Murray-Boyles with the ninth pick of the 2025 NBA Draft.
Instead of taking a center, which was an area of need, the Raptors surprised many people when they took Collin Murray-Boyles, who showed a lot of good things at Summer League.
While his shot is a work in progress, Murray-Boyles is a strong rebounder, playmaker and makes winning plays.
His best skill, however, is something that Toronto Raptors general manager Bobby Webster pointed out during a press conference.
Bobby Webster says Collin Murray-Boyles can ‘impact the game in a positive way,’ credits his ability ‘on the defensive end’
Murray-Boyles is an incredible defender. With his ability to defend multiple positions, he will help Scottie Barnes in that department.
The Raptors look at Murray-Boyles as someone who can do the little things well.
Bobby Webster couldn’t help but praise the Raptors rookie when speaking to the media.
“Very rarely do you see a rookie coming in and impact the game in a positive way. I think the one area he can do, and is probably the best way for rookies, is on the defensive end.
“He’s incredibly disruptive defensively, and we’ve seen that here in September. You saw it in college, you saw it in Summer League.
“So I think that probably would be the incentive for the coaches to put him in the game.
“But he’s got a long way to go. I think he’s still got a 20 year old body. He’s still getting used to [it], he hasn’t even been on a road trip yet in the NBA, but I think, yeah, you’ll see on the defensive end is where he’ll really make his impact.”
With an expensive payroll coming into the new season, the Raptors are expected to win with Brandon Ingram.
The Raptors are hoping Brandon Ingram can stay healthy and return to All-Star form.
Ingram will join Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett and Jakob Poeltl in the starting lineup.
Meanwhile, the Raptors have some good young pieces in Gradey Dick, Ja’Kobe Walter and Murray-Boyles from off the bench.
This will be a crucial year for Toronto. If they aren’t at least in a play-in spot, it would be a huge disappointment and could usher in major changes.
