The Boston Celtics could lose out on one of the team’s most impressive players at NBA Summer League.
It is no secret the Boston Celtics are in a transitional phase, with a year of mediocrity potentially lying ahead, even in a weak Eastern Conference.
Jayson Tatum’s injury and the departures of key players have cut through their roster. And while his future is not yet confirmed, Al Horford is not expected to re-sign in Boston, with the Warriors most likely.
And while they have held off inquiries for Derrick White, the problem for the Celtics is at the center position.
One bright spot emerged during NBA Summer League, with Charles Bassey shining.
Charles Bassey produced a series of standout performances for the Boston Celtics during Summer League.
Celtics fans urged the team to ‘sign him up’ after a 22 point and 13 rebound performance against the New York Knicks.
Bassey now has an opportunity to play abroad, potentially heading to Serbia. An offer is on the table.
His agent Mark McNeil told Meridan Sport: “Charles is honored by the interest of Basketball Club Partizan. He is definitely considering the offer and will continue discussions.
“Other European clubs have contacted him, but Partizan is his priority right now.”
Charles Bassey played three games on the Boston Celtics’ Summer League roster, making the most of his opportunity.
The former San Antonio Spurs prospect looked like becoming an unlikely solution for the Celtics at the center position.
But no agreement has been reached, with Bassey now looking abroad.
Bassey could follow Shake Milton to Partizan, with the former LA Lakers player agreeing a deal with the Serbian team in recent days, after he was waived to clear salary room for ex-Celtics star Marcus Smart.
