The Golden State Warriors tried, but when it was all said and done, the Oklahoma City Thunder were just too good for Brandin Podziemski and the Dubs, who absorbed a 124-112 loss to the reigning NBA champions at Chase Center in San Francisco on Tuesday evening.
At least one fan also went home from that contest with a story to tell, albeit a messy one.
With the Warriors under duress to catch up to Oklahoma City late in the fourth quarter, Podziemski tried to make a play for veteran guard Seth Curry, who was making his Golden State debut.
Curry set a screen for Podziemski and popped out to the right side for what appeared to be a wide-open look. However, Podziemski botched his pass to Curry, with the ball going directly to the sideline, where it hit a fan's drink.

That turnover took the air out of Golden State's fight, as the Thunder coasted to a double-digit victory. It was one of the Warriors' 16 turnovers in the contest, which Oklahoma City converted into 23 points.
As for Podziemski, he top-scored for Golden State along with Pat Spencer, as the two tied for a team-high 17 points. The former Santa Clara Broncos star shot 6-for-11 from the floor and hit three of his five attempts from behind the arc, but committed four turnovers.
Without Steph Curry, who is dealing with a quad injury, Podziemski was expected to serve an expanded role in the backcourt for the Warriors, and that may continue to be the case as long as the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player is sidelined.
Golden State dropped to .500 again with an 11-11 record after losing to the Thunder and will look to get back to its winning ways this coming Thursday, when it starts a three-game road trip at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia against the Philadelphia 76ers.
