Victor Wembanyama did a little bit of everything in the San Antonio Spurs preseason win over the Guangzhou Loong-Lions.
Victor Wembanyama finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 blocks in 16 minutes of action.
The 21-year-old thrived in a point center role with the San Antonio Spurs where he created a lot of his team’s offense. It is just another element he will bring to the table this season.
Wembanyama comes into this season fully healthy as he looks to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a playoff spot.
With the Spurs missing their three lead guards, they leaned on Wembanyama to execute the offense.
He looked good in that role and how he was able to distribute the basketball.
His performance caught the attention of Brian Windhorst who said that Wembanyama reminded him of Draymond Green with how he was playing.
“The Spurs were missing their three lead guards last night, the injuries to De’Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle. So they started four wings and Victor Wembanyama.
“As a result, he essentially played point center. You saw some of those highlights. He looked kind of like Draymond Green getting the ball at the center of the court, distributing it.
“He can do a lot of different things, but create with the ball far from the hoop, is something that is on the list.
“The game plan last night, be it one off style, game plan against a Chinese team, could be instructive, and how Victor wants to expand his game more this season.”
It’s only a matter of time until Wembanyama becomes the best player in the NBA.
Wembanyama has played two seasons for the Spurs so far. He has averaged 22.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.7 blocks in 117 regular-season games.
He won the Rookie of the Year award and was selected to the 2025 All-Star Game last season.
Wembanyama would have likely won the Defensive Player of the Year award last season had he not suffered a blood clot issue that limited him to playing in just 46 games.
