Cade Cunningham 'right on target' in recovery

Young Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham may have played the worst game of his career just a week ago when he scored just four points on 1-of-11 shooting from the field in a loss to the Boston Celtics.

Perhaps not surprisingly, Cunningham has missed Detroit's next three games with shin soreness and there's a good chance he misses the next few as well.

That has been bad news for arguably the NBA's worst team, but head coach Dwayne Casey did recently offer a small glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel that has been this four-game losing streak for Detroit.
The losing may not end anytime soon, but the good news is that Cunningham's progress is right on track.

"We’re still waiting and seeing where it goes and letting everything happen. Multiple people are doing a heck of a job working on him. He’s right on target where he should be right now," Casey said via beat writer Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press.

To be clear, all this losing isn't exactly terrible for Detroit as the Pistons are squarely in the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes.

That said, the Pistons do have a young and exciting young core led by Cunningham, the former No. 1 overall pick, and Jaden Ivey, who the Pistons took with the 5th overall pick in this past draft.

Those two players project to be cornerstone pieces for Detroit, but growth is the name of the game right now. Losing is okay because getting another high draft pick will be good for the Pistons in the long run, but both Cunningham and Ivey need to learn how to win in the NBA right now -- and they're currently not learning much of that in Detroit.

Perhaps Cunningham coming back on schedule and getting a chance to get going again will help the Pistons get a few more wins under their belt before all is said and done.
