The Hawks kicked off their offseason in a big way, firing general manager Landry Fields. In his place, Atlanta announced that Onsi Saleh has been promoted to general manager, and that a search for a President of Basketball Operations will begin immediately, with one candidate already emerging.
According to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, 76ers executive Elton Brand is expected to be among the candidates pursued by the Hawks.

The 17-year NBA veteran actually spent time in Atlanta during the tail end of his career, playing for the Hawks for two seasons before coming out of retirement to rejoin the Sixers, where he played four seasons earlier in his career.
Brand joined the Philadelphia organization shortly after retiring, going from a player development role to the general manager of their G League affiliate. Now, he’s nestled in next to Daryl Morey, the Sixers’ President of Basketball Operations.
Whoever is brought in as President of Basketball Operations will have a laundry list of items on their to-do list, which begins with getting Trae Young to sign a long-term extension with the team. The Hawks will also likely have two first-round picks in the upcoming draft, giving them a lot of ammo to make a splash if they see fit.
The role for the new front office could not be more clear. Landry Fields did a quality job getting the Hawks out of a bad spot. Atlanta features a talented and young starting lineup with no bad contracts on the books. Now, it’s time for the Hawks to take that next leap into the contender tier.
