Celtics React to Jrue Holiday Announcement on Wednesday

The Boston Celtics are working through the second round of the NBA playoffs, competing against the New York Knicks.

New York leads the series 1-0 after defeating the Celtics, 108-105, in Game 1 of the series.

As the Celtics prepare for Game 2, Boston shared some exciting news on Jrue Holiday. The Celtics guard has been awarded the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion Award.

Boston shared the news on social media, sharing high praise for the star guard.

"A true champion on and off the court," posted the official social media account of the Boston Celtics. "Congrats Jrue on winning the 2025 NBA #SocialJusticeChampion award."

Holiday was a finalist for the award alongside several other well-known names in the NBA community: Bam Adebayo, Harrison Barnes, CJ McCollum and Chris Boucher.

According to an official release by the NBA, the Social Justice Champion Award recognizes an active player for "pursuing social justice and advancing Abdul-Jabbar’s life mission to engage, empower and drive equality for individuals and groups who have been historically disadvantaged."

Holiday's contribution to the cause comes from the "Jrue and Lauren Holiday Social Impact Fund," which has distributed over $5.3 million in grants.

Aside from having a successful season with the Boston Celtics on the court, Holiday seems to have made a tremendous impact outside the lines.

During the 2024-25 season with the Celtics, Holiday has averaged 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.

Holiday's Social Justice Champion award now sits beside his Sportsmanship Award, which he won earlier in the NBA playoffs.

The Celtics guard previously won the Sportsmanship Award over Jarrett Allen, Dorian Finney-Smith, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Kyrie Irving and Franz Wagner.
