The Celtics are making a move to keep Ron Harper Jr. in the fold. After waiving rookie RJ Luis on Wednesday, Boston plans to convert Harper to a two-way contract, his agent Drew Gross told Shams Charania of ESPN.
Harper, 6-foot-6, has been on an Exhibit 10 deal that allows for conversion into a two-way before the start of the regular season. That deadline hits Monday.
He spent most of last season in the G League and made the most of it, averaging 16.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists across 37 games with the Motor City Cruise and Maine Celtics. He also shot 38.6 percent from deep on more than eight attempts per game.
Harper has looked comfortable this preseason too, putting up 4.3 points in limited minutes. He’s appeared in just 11 total NBA games since 2022 but carries three years of service time, making this his final year of two-way eligibility.
Boston’s other two-way players are second-round picks Amari Williams and Max Shulga.
