The New York Knicks started their offseason off with a bang as they decided to fire head coach Tom Thibodeau just three days after their playoff exit.
This was a shocking decision as many expected the Knicks to run it back with Thibodeau manning the sidelines next season after he helped lead them to their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2000.
Instead, the Knicks felt that it was time for a change after Thibodeau had faced criticism along with a report coming out saying that some players on the roster did not like his coaching style.
With Thibodeau now gone, New York has a crucial decision to make as they begin their head coaching search and they have already tried to make some major moves.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the Knicks had requested to interview Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd, Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch, Houston Rockets coach Ime Udoka and Atlanta Hawks coach Quin Snyder but their requests were denied by all four teams.

It was also reported that they reached out to Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan but were denied once again.

With these reports coming out, NBA legend Charles Barkley slammed the Knicks for during their coaching search.
“The Knicks gonna be the stupidest damn people in the world,” Barkley said. “You don’t have a plan?”

This was a clear shot by Barkley, but he does have a point, especially after he criticized them for firing Thibodeau.
With the Knicks going after coaches who already have jobs, it is clear that they do not really have a complete plan as it was expected that their respective teams would deny any request for an interview.
Because of this, New York will now have to turn to those already on the market such as Michael Malone, Mike Brown or possibly Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Johnnie Bryant.
Either way, the Knicks have a crucial decision to make and with the offseason right around the corner, it would be smart for them to make one sooner rather than later.
