Chauncey Billups took a shot at ESPN

Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups took a shot at ESPN while doing an interview with the network on Tuesday.

Billups was a guest on ESPN’s telecast of the NBA Summer League game between the Blazers and New Orleans Pelicans, and took the opportunity to talk up his team. In doing so, he even took a little shot at the network that the game was airing on.

“Most of the world, even you, y’all didn’t really see us play last year,” Billups said.

There is, of course, a reason for this. The Blazers finished an unremarkable 36-46 in 2024-25. They were a young team that is starting to come together under Billups, but that does not necessarily make for great viewing to a national television audience.

There was even some talk that Billups might lose his job after another losing season, but that obviously did not wind up happening.

The Blazers traded for Jrue Holiday and drafted Yang Hansen, and clearly hope to take a step forward this season. If they can do that, Billups and his team should show up more often on ESPN’s airwaves.
