The Cleveland Cavaliers didn’t have the ideal ending to their 2024-25 NBA season. On Tuesday, the Cavaliers had a 114-105 defeat against the Indiana Pacers, ending their best-of-seven series. For a team that dominated in the season to capture the top spot in the Eastern Conference, a gentleman’s sweep wasn’t an expected outcome for Cleveland.
The Donovan Mitchell-led team didn’t have the healthiest group during the second round against Indiana. In the first two games, the Cavaliers didn’t have All-Star guard Darius Garland, who was out with a toe injury. In Game 2, Garland was on the bench with forwards De’Andre Hunter and Evan Mobley. Both players had injuries and didn’t play that game.
Mitchell did his best to try and lead the Cavaliers with an incomplete roster. In Games 2 and 3, the All-Star guard had back-to-back 40-point games. Still, that wasn’t enough to give the team the push they needed.
After their elimination, Mitchell spoke to the media about his thoughts on how the team’s season ended.
“Winning is not easy, some things have to go right,” Mitchell said. “You gotta play well, you gotta capitalize on opportunities.
Mitchell still believes in the current group the team has.
“We have a window in this group, I believe in everybody in here, we believe in each other. That’s what sucks, man. It’s just — we’re a good team and for five, four — three games, we didn’t show what we’re capable of. Ultimately, that’s what we’re judged on.
“Y’all are gonna write us the f*** off man… We’ll be back.”

Before he ended his postgame presser, he promised that the Cavaliers will be back.
“Y’all gonna wright us the f**k off, man. We’ll be back. We led the city down, we let each other down. We’ll be back.”
Donovan Mitchell pondered long about what went wrong with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the postseason. Despite boasting a 64-18 record, the team struggled against the fourth-placed Indiana team.
After the game, Mitchell went back into the arena and sat on the bench.

During his postgame presser, he was asked why he returned to the court after the game.
“I just couldn’t believe it,” Mitchell said. “Didn’t want to believe it, don’t want to believe it. Still don’t want to believe it. It’s tough. It’s tough to win in this league.”
"We didn't get it done… especially at home. That's what hurts, you know?"

Mitchell emphasized the team’s lack of wins at home during the second round. Their lone win was at Indiana in Game 3. However, they suffered losses whenever they played in front of the crowd against the Pacers.
The star guard said “it hurts” to realize they couldn’t get one win in front of their fans.
