Clippers waive former Auburn star Johni Broome

The Clippers had one guaranteed contract too many. Johni Broome became the odd man out.

Los Angeles announced Thursday that it waived the 24-year-old center/forward, trimming its roster after entering the fall with 16 players on guaranteed deals.

Broome was selected 35th overall by the 76ers in the 2025 NBA Draft. The Clippers acquired him this summer along with a future second-round pick, essentially receiving draft compensation for taking on his contract.

They’ll now owe Broome his guaranteed $2.15 million salary unless another team claims him off waivers. His contract ran through 2028-29, but none of the money beyond this season was guaranteed.

Broome appeared in only 11 NBA games as a rookie, averaging 0.9 points and 1.5 rebounds in nine minutes. He was far more productive in the G League, averaging 21.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.5 blocks in 26 appearances for the Delaware Blue Coats.

His season was interrupted by a torn meniscus in his right knee in February, though he returned for limited action during Philadelphia’s playoff run.

The Clippers may have another roster decision coming. Cam Christie’s $2.3 million salary becomes guaranteed Oct. 15, making him another possible cut unless LA clears space through a trade.
