The Dallas Mavericks saw Cooper Flagg win Rookie of the Year, culminating a fantastic freshman campaign in the NBA with the award everyone covets when they enter the league.
Everyone knows what comes with the award, including a number of high expectations moving forward. But what many people may not know is that it might even come with a new nickname!
Thus far in his NBA career, Flagg has really only taken on one nickname: “The Maine Event,” which is an ode to his home state of Maine. At his Rookie of the Year press conference on Wednesday night, Flagg has informed that a new nickname may be on the horizon.
“Cooper Swag.”
When informed of the potential nickname at his press conference, Flagg had the perfect reaction.
“Say it again?” Flagg asked, according to Mavs reporter Brad Townsend’s video. “Cooper Swag? Okay. I’ve never heard that. I’ve never heard that, but I think its cool. For me, it pays to be here. I think it can say a lot about the future. It makes me really happy and feel blessed because I don’t feel that far removed from being a little kid and looking up to players and stuff like that, so it feels great.”
