The Denver Nuggets, as long as Nikola Jokic is on the roster and healthy, will be Finals contenders. He is easily the best player in the league, and the front office simply needs to surround him with complementary talent.
Under interim head coach David Adelman, the Nuggets took the Finals favorites Oklahoma City Thunder, to seven games before getting eliminated. Denver had its fair share of ups and downs this season, although in the playoffs, they stepped things up for the most part.
Still, the Nuggets need to make some additions, and Adelman did not hold back.
"Consistent shooting," Adelman named. "It's not just making shots. It's making shots in the moment, and how you get yourself ready for the moment."
This season, Denver ranked fifth in 3-point percentage but was dead last in both attempts and makes. Jamal Murray, Christian Braun, Michael Porter Jr., and of course, Nikola Jokic are all excellent shooters, and Aaron Gordon stepped up his shot making the postseason.
However, off the bench, Denver doesn't have many shooting threats.
With very limited money to spend this offseason, free agents like Malik Beasley and even Luke Kennard could be too expensive, although veterans like Joe Ingles, Doug McDermott, and Seth Curry could be gettable.
Denver has the best starter in the NBA and a solid cast around him, but depth has long been an issue. Trading Porter Jr. to free up some space is an option, but he is the best shooter on the roster, so Adelman likely wouldn't be happy to see him go.
