DeMarcus Cousins says Jimmy Butler has ‘bigger issue’ with Warriors than playing with Stephen Curry

The first full season of Jimmy Butler with the Golden State Warriors has finally arrived.

The Golden State Warriors‘ new season campaign starts tonight, October 21, against the Los Angeles Lakers, a game in which Butler is expected to start.

Last season during his 30-game stint, Butler impacted the Warriors significantly with a 23-7 record while producing 17.9 points, 5.9 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Those numbers fell below his Miami Heat production but demonstrated his substantial team impact.

DeMarcus Cousins believes Jimmy Butler-Draymond Green facilitator roles create offensive complications

Former Warriors player DeMarcus Cousins believes Butler will strengthen Golden State, particularly providing offensive support for Stephen Curry.

However, the former All-Star identified a significant challenge in Butler’s offensive integration with Draymond Green.

With both players capable of facilitating, their roles could overlap, creating offensive inefficiency.

“Jimmy’s a winner, he’s proven that during his career wherever he’s gone. He’s elevated teams,” Cousins stated.

“He gets a full season this year, another season to understand the system, to figure out his role and maximize himself in that role, a full season of playing with Steph.”

“The bigger issue is trying to mesh with Draymond. Defensively, great, it’s second nature for those two guys. Offensively figuring out each other, I think that’s more so a struggle,” he added.

Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green must prove offensive chemistry doubts wrong

Last season during playoff elimination against Minnesota, Green acknowledged Butler’s struggles, primarily on offense rather than defense.

However, Green has stated his belief that Butler represents the missing piece for another Warriors championship run.

Both players must prove Cousins’ assessment incorrect, as their chemistry on both ends will prove crucial for Golden State’s championship aspirations.

The full season provides opportunity to develop offensive coordination that eluded them during Butler’s abbreviated first stint.
