Denver Nuggets fire head coach and general manager

The Denver Nuggets today sent shockwaves through the NBA by firing the winningest coach in franchise history and 2023 NBA World Champion Mike Malone. The team has promoted its lead assistant David Adelman, son of Rick, to interim head coach. The team is currently riding a four game losing streak while its starting point guard Jamal Murray has been sidelined.

There have been moments when players have shown emotions on the sideline, with even normally calm Jokic displaying rare frustration recently while on the bench trying to sort out the Nuggets' struggles. The Nuggets have gone 11-13 since the All-Star break.

When the Nuggets entered this season, sources told ESPN that there was growing tension between Malone and Booth that grew into a "cold war."

The Nuggets also have notified their general manager Calvin Booth that they won't be extending his contract, in essence firing him as well. The Boston Celtics' Joe Mazzulla and longtime Warriors head coach Steve Kerr are the only championship winning head coaches of the past ten years still standing.

The Lakers and Bucks also both fired their championship winning head coaches Frank Vogel and Mike Budenholzer not too long after winning titles. This Mike Malone one is the most shocking of the three though and unless Nikola Jokic pushed for the decision it makes no sense.
