In Nikola Jokic, the Denver Nuggets have arguably the best player in all of basketball right now. He is averaging 30.9 points, 13.3 rebounds, 9.9 assists and 1.8 steals this season while shooting 49.5% from three-point range. That is remarkable.
Yet, the Nuggets do not look like Championship contenders at the moment, sitting 5th in the West with a 14-10 record.
The Nuggets are a solid team for sure but do not seem to be in the same bracket as the Boston Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder or Cleveland Cavaliers. They could be though, if they make the right additions and it looks like a Chicago Bulls veteran is on their radar.
According to Sam Amick and Tony Jones in The Athletic, league sources say the focus on Zach LaVine in recent discussions is significant, with the Nuggets interested in the 29-year-old.
The Nuggets have been linked with a wing scorer in the past as well. It is believed that they were interested in bringing Paul George to Denver. While the move did not happen, it does show that that has been recognized as an area in need of strengthening.
LaVine has been fantastic for the Bulls so far this season, as Chicago have been much better than expected.
The good news for the Nuggets is that the Bulls are believed to be very open to the idea of trading LaVine.
He has a massive contract which is not the right fit for the Bulls at this point in time, as they seek a rebuild after making the playoffs just once in the past seven seasons.
Someone like LaVine could be a very good addition for the Nuggets. Now, it remains to be seen whether they make a suitable trade offer to the Bulls for the 29-year-old. Chicago have shown that they are not scored to stick with their players if they believe the offer isn't right.
